Now that everyone who is likely to see the Love Live Movie most probably has, I’m going to put down my thoughts on it.

 

While I enjoyed the movie, it was disappointing and lost a lot of the potential it could have had. It felt like they had been planning to make a 3^rd season, then during the initial drafting of the seasons storyline, realized that the voice actors contracts would expire before they could complete production and so used the basic outline to make the movie. This resulted in some quite jarring scene cuts, time jumps and lost story opportunities.

 

For instance, the New York trip arc could have run for 3 entire episodes, instead of the approximately 18 minutes we got in the movie.

 

The movie could very easily have been a full 13 episode season with the New York arc running from late 2^nd ep to late 5^th ep (while including Wonderful Rush as an insert song in ep 2) and the school idol scouting/Akiba live arc lasting 2-3 eps near the end of the season, perhaps eps 10-12. Finish the season off with Sunny Day Song, then lead into a movie.

Start the movie with the final μ's show of Bokutachi wa Hitotsu no Hikari as a lead into the 3^rd Love Live before showing what the Otonokizaka High Idol Research Club is doing now that Nico, Eli and Nozomi have left (eg, Pretemps could continue as is with Kotori, Hanayo and Honoka. Maki could move into Lily White with Rin and Umi to replace Nozomi while BiBi dissolves and Yukiho and Alisa form their own group. Maybe also have an arc where Tsubasa tries to recruit Honoka into a now pro A-RISE :3).

 

More importantly, the movie could introduce the Sunshine girls. At least two of the girls from Sunshine would likely be in Tokyo at this time. One, Riko, transferred from Otonokizaka High, so should know at least some of the members of μ's. Another, Chika, is a fan of μ's, so is very likely to have gone to their final live. At the very least, Riko and Chika could have been introduced in a movie following a 3^rd season. Then end off the movie with shots of Uranohoshi Girls' Academy and Uchiura, perhaps following Riko as she transfers there with Kimi no Kokoro wa Kagayaiteru kai? playing in the background.

I’ve almost locked in my travel plans for my holiday. Just need to work out 2 more stops for US leg...

I have friends going to both Anime USA and Youmacon. Last year I went to both, this year they both fall on the same weekend. I can’t go to both, but I just can’t decide which one to go to. @_@;;

 

With the ticket type I’m using, I can only use one non stop transcon flight in North America. If I use that for the East-West flight after AAC, I have to stop somewhere on the way back. With the flight options I can use, the options are Dallas, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta or St Louis. Don’t know which one.

Other option is to make that a connection instead of a stop and extend the other stops a little, but that would become a double connection to New York via Miami to max out the flights I’m allowed on the ticket, so a stop would be nice rather then a 3 flight transcon.

 

Any suggestions? <3

Possible cons to go to this year, I normally try for a string of 3-5 in a row... July+ are more likely then before.

I was already considering dropping SNAFU Con and spending that weekend in NorCal/Bay Area instead.

Now I hear that someone I know is going to BanzaiCon in Columbia, SC which is making me want to meet up with them there. Changing the stop in Philadelphia to BanzaiCon is easy enough, but I’d have to alter some flights. I haven’t gotten any tickets yet with delays related to changing my “legal” name and needing to renew my passport, so changing is easy. But I was planning to get the main round the world ticket sorted next week while I’m in Tokyo for Sera Myu.

 

If I do BanzaiCon, I’d need land transport between Charlotte and Columbia, and because of the flight limits on the ticket, I’d have to cut out one of the flights in Asia. Currently I have Toyko-Hong Kong at the start and Beijing-Hong Kong-Singapore-Tokyo at the end.

 

In order to make BanzaiCon work, I’d have to do one of these:

    -       Drop Beijing and stop over in Hong Kong, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur instead – I’ve already had stops in all three a number of times. Haven’t been to Beijing before.

    -       Drop the Hong Kong and Singapore connections and route via Kuala Lumpur instead – but that would cause some frequent flyer related problems (annoying, but not major issue), put me on the early morning (1am) Beijing-Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Airlines flight, then end up at Narita instead of Haneda where I’d need to be for the Osaka flight.

    -       Drop the Singapore connection (with the same annoying frequent flyer related problems as above), route via Hong Kong and spend a night at Haneda Airport

    -       Start with Tokyo-New York instead of Tokyo-Hong Kong-New York – but that would likely make Cathay Pacific not want to ticket and make it much harder to get the trip booked.
